What Is a Tooth Extraction?

An extraction is the removal of a tooth from the jawbone. We only recommend it once other options are not possible, usually because the tooth is too damaged or infected to hold up on its own.

When Removing a Tooth Becomes Necessary

Sometimes, decay or a fracture takes out more of the tooth than a filling or crown can fix. Other times, an infection has spread past the point where treatment can catch up with it. An impacted tooth is its own case entirely, since it can quietly damage the teeth next to it until removal becomes the safer route.

Common Signs You May Need a Tooth Extraction

Pain that will not settle down, even with treatment, is usually the clearest sign. Beyond that, watch for damage hiding below the gumline, a tooth that has loosened from gum disease, or infections that keep coming back no matter what you try.

Protecting Your Long-Term Oral Health

Pulling the tooth solves the problem in front of you, but we do not stop there. Before you leave, we talk through what comes next, often a bridge or another replacement option. This ensures the teeth around the gap stay put and your bite does not drift out of balance.

Reasons Patients Need a Tooth Extraction in Orleans

Severe decay brings in many of our extraction patients, and advanced gum disease is right behind it once a tooth has loosened beyond saving. We also see plenty of trauma cases, along with wisdom teeth that are impacted and crowding everything around them.
We do not decide right away to do removal. Every other option gets weighed first, and if extraction really is the right call, our team walks you through the reasoning and what happens from there.

Symptoms That May Indicate a Tooth Needs Removal

We help you identify warning signs early, so you get the right care before the problem worsens.

Persistent Tooth Sensitivity

If sensitivity lingers long after you finish eating or drinking, that is often a sign the nerve is involved. Once it turns severe and does not let up, saving the tooth may no longer be realistic.

Ongoing Dental Pain and Swelling

Throbbing pain along with swelling in the jaw or gums usually points to infection. It rarely clears up by itself, so prompt care matters here.

Bad Breath Caused by Infection

If bad breath sticks around even with good oral hygiene, an underlying infection could be the cause, and treatment is usually what it takes to clear it for good.

Difficulty Chewing or Biting

Pain when you chew or bite down is often a sign of real structural damage underneath. Putting off a visit tends to make things worse, so it is worth calling sooner rather than later.

Types of Removal Procedures We Offer at Our Clinic

We offer a full range of removal procedures at our clinic, from simple cases to more complex situations requiring surgical care.

Simple Tooth Removals

When a tooth has fully erupted and sits above the gumline, removing it is usually straightforward. Local anesthetic keeps you comfortable the whole way through

Surgical Removals

A tooth broken at the gumline, or one that is just hard to reach, calls for a more careful surgical approach. Our dental surgical team follows a careful, precise approach tailored to your situation.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Impacted wisdom teeth bring in a lot of our extraction patients. When they do not erupt fully, they tend to crowd the teeth next to them and keep causing discomfort until they are addressed.

What to Expect During Your Removal Appointment at Our Clinic

We walk every patient through each step ahead of time, so nothing on the day of the procedure feels uncertain.

Initial Examination and Diagnosis

X-rays let us see the roots and surrounding bone clearly before we plan anything. That picture is what shapes the approach we take.

Preparing for the Procedure

We start by reviewing your medical history. Then the area is fully numbed with local anesthetic, and we check in with you before moving forward with anything.

The Extraction Process

Local anesthetic helps keep discomfort to a minimum during a routine removal. Our team moves at a steady pace, aiming to keep the whole thing smooth and as stress-free as it can be.

I was in so much pain, and they got me in the same day. Super nice staff and Dr Aguilar is professional and kind. I recommend them 110%!!!
Edit : I went again today to finish my extractions. Again, the staff they are ALL amazing. Dr Aguilar is so wonderful. We all had a good laugh because of my 5 years old saying “For real?” when he ask if all of my teeth were gone.

Thank you for the service. Great place to go ….recommend for
This Dental office is very unreliable. They book you an appointment at a specific time and they never take you in at that time. The last 4 times that I have been there I was told it would only take a few minutes and I have been there for well over an hour, sometimes 2. Why bother making an apointment if the time really doesn't mean anything ?? Always get an excuse that the Dentist is running behind but I see that other patients are going ahead of me. Anyways, I would not recommend this Dental Office as there are many other offices that have much better service in the Orleans area.

Excellent front desk staff. Friendly and compassionate
Dental hygienist was incredible, compassionate and very gentle. My anxiety stayed in tack. Dentist was gentle and lovely
I just came from my first appointment at this location and I’m so happy I had such a good experience with the whole staff starting with Flora at the front desk. Patrick was incredibly thorough and took the time to explain my X-rays, the cleaning process and to answer all my questions! Dr. Yamis was equally great - very welcoming and professional, and I give her extra points for speaking Spanish!
11/10 would recommend!
