What Is a Tooth Extraction?

Professional teeth whitening uses a peroxide-based bleaching agent to break down surface and subsurface stains on the enamel. It is safe, effective, and significantly more powerful than anything available over the counter.

How Teeth Whitening Works

The gel works its way into the enamel and goes after the compounds causing the stain. Once the peroxide breaks those compounds apart, the tooth lightens from the inside out, not just the surface. Professional-strength gels do this faster and more evenly than anything sold over the counter.

Common Causes of Tooth Discoloration

Coffee, tea, wine, tobacco, aging, certain medications, and dental trauma can all contribute to tooth discoloration over time. Figuring out which one is behind your staining is something our Kanata dental team can do at a quick assessment. That same assessment will help point us toward the right whitening approach.

Why Professional Teeth Whitening Is More Effective Than Store–Bought Options

What we use in the clinic is stronger than what’s on a drugstore shelf. It’s applied in a way tailored to your teeth, rather than with a one-size-fits-all tray. That combination is why the coverage is more even and the results show up more clearly.

Benefits of Professional Teeth Whitening in Kanata

Faster and More Noticeable Results

In-office treatment at our Kanata dental clinic can lighten teeth by several shades in a single appointment, something retail products would take weeks to achieve. You leave the same day with a noticeably brighter smile.

Safe and Dentist–Supervised Treatment

Our team assesses your enamel health and sensitivity before recommending a whitening protocol. We calibrate treatment to what your teeth can actually handle. That’s what keeps the enamel protected and sensitivity manageable while it works.

Long–Lasting Whitening Effects

Professional whitening typically lasts one to three years, though the duration depends largely on what you eat and drink during that time. Patients who maintain good oral hygiene and moderate their intake of staining foods and beverages tend to enjoy the longest-lasting outcomes.

In–Office Teeth Whitening in Kanata – Quick and Effective Results

In–office whitening is a fast and effective way to achieve a noticeably brighter smile.

What Happens During Your Whitening Appointment

We cover your gums and lips so the whitening agent only touches your teeth. The gel is applied to the tooth surfaces, activated for a set period, and then refreshed. Some in-office systems use a light to support the process. You are comfortably reclined throughout, and most patients listen to music or watch something during the appointment.

How Long Does the Treatment Take

Most in-office appointments are completed in 60 to 90 minutes. The exact duration depends on the system used and your starting shade. We will give you an accurate time estimate when you book

What Results You Can Expect from In–Office Teeth Whitening

Four to eight shades lighter in one sitting is typical, though your result depends on your starting shade and how deep the staining goes. Results are visible right away.

How to Maintain Your Teeth Whitening Results

For the first 48 hours after treatment, the enamel is at its most porous, so avoiding dark-colored foods and beverages during this window helps preserve your results. After that, moderating your intake of coffee, tea, and wine, using a straw for dark drinks, and brushing soon after consuming staining foods all help extend the effect.
Touch-up whitening with a custom take-home kit every six to twelve months keeps your smile at its best between visits. Ask us about custom trays and professional-grade gel if you’d rather manage touch-ups from home.

Is Teeth Whitening Safe in Kanata?

Whitening is safe when a dentist is guiding the process. Here’s what you should know before treatment.

General Dentistry Ottawa

Sensitivity After Teeth Whitening

It’s normal to have a little sensitivity during or immediately after treatment, but it usually fades within a day or two. Our team applies a desensitizing agent after treatment to help minimize any discomfort, and we tailor the gel concentration to your sensitivity level from the start.

Dentist–Supervised Safety Measures

An assessment of your gum health, enamel integrity, and existing restorations precedes every whitening treatment at our Kanata clinic to identify which patients need a modified approach before treatment starts.

Myths About Teeth Whitening

Whitening does not weaken tooth enamel when performed correctly and at appropriate intervals. It also does not change the color of crowns, veneers, or bonding. If you have visible restorations, we will discuss shade matching with you before treatment begins so your expectations are clear.

Marissa, our hygienist, is amazing. We came in and she's not even front desk, she had a big smile on her face. Very warm, entertaining, made the appointment such a pleasure. Team is so lucky to have her. We love Trillium because of her.
We had been going to Trillium Dental on Kakulu Rd. for about a year and a half and, overall, had been happy with our experience. Dr. O’Connor saw my daughter twice, and Marisa is a wonderful hygienist.
However, our most recent experience was very concerning, and I want to share it so that others are aware and can make informed decisions. Our regular dentist at this clinic was on maternity leave, so last fall my 15-year-old daughter went for her routine cleaning and exam with another doctor at this clinic. Dr. Harsimrat Birgi saw her. At that time, we were told that everything looked fine and no treatment was needed — just regular monitoring.
Six months later, on May 25,2026 we returned for another routine cleaning. Since our regular dentist was still away, my daughter was again seen by Dr. Harsimrat Birgi.
Mainly based on the X-rays, the doctor started listing tooth after tooth that supposedly needed treatment. After only a very brief look in my daughter’s mouth, we were presented with a treatment plan for 12 teeth with an estimate of over $3,500. We were told the treatment should be started as soon as possible and encouraged to book appointments.
We were extremely surprised that such extensive treatment would suddenly be needed after only six months, especially since the same doctor had examined her just six month earlier and told us that everything looked fine and only needed monitoring. Because of this, we decided to get a second opinion from another dentist at a different clinic.
The second dentist recommended treatment for only 2 teeth. Regarding a third tooth, we were told the issue was very minor and could simply be monitored for now. All other teeth, according to the second opinion, did not require treatment.
I’m sharing our experience to encourage people to be very careful and always seek a second opinion when faced with extensive dental treatment plans and significant costs. If you are seeing this doctor Dr.Harsimrat Birgi, I strongly recommend getting another opinion before proceeding with major dental work.

There’s excellent service, and then there’s above and beyond treatment. I can’t express how much gratitude I have for the amazing people at this location especially.

It’s been a number of years since I’ve been to a dentist and the nerves I had were quickly calmed and handled with such gentle reassurance .

I’d HIGHLY recommend anyone to this clinic. In a heartbeat.
