Ottawa Metal-Free Dentistry

In recent years, innovation and advanced technology have revolutionized dentistry. Silver and gold fillings used to be our only choices for restoring your damaged or decayed teeth but advances in dental material technology have created strong new synthetic tooth-coloured restorative materials that help you look your best. Before modern dental techniques were implemented, dentists often had to use metals like gold, dental amalgam, and titanium for routine dental procedures.

At our metal-free dental office, you’ll be able to enjoy the numerous benefits of metal-free dentistry. Porcelain and composite fillings don’t expand and contract to allow bacteria underneath them the way metal fillings do. Overall on top of being more aesthetically appealing, the porcelain and composite fillings are safer and healthier for you. While silver fillings can weaken the natural tooth, white fillings bond to the tooth thereby strengthening the remaining natural structure.

What Is Metal-Free Dentistry?

Metal-free dentistry is exactly what it sounds like! By using modern composite fillings, dental resin, porcelain, and other advanced materials like zirconia, our metal-free dental office provides a better way to treat a variety of dental issues.

No one needs to know about your dental imperfections because metal-free materials look just like your natural teeth. At Trillium Dental, we use advanced dental techniques and materials to provide you with long-lasting, comfortable, and natural oral care!

What Are the Benefits of Metal-Free Dentistry?

Interested in metal-free dentistry? Here are just a few of the benefits you can enjoy with our services:

  • A More Natural Appearance
Although they are effective, mercury amalgam fillings tend to darken the tooth due to their silvery-black color. This can result in a grayish, unattractive tooth structure. On the other hand, composite fillings can be blended to benefits of metal-free dentistry match the color of the surrounding tooth, providing a more natural appearance. The same goes for dental crowns. Rather than using gold or copper-based metals to restore your tooth, we use advanced ceramics that are indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
  • Reduced Tooth Sensitivity
Metals such as titanium, copper, and mercury are excellent heat conductors. They heat up and cool down quickly, which can often cause serious tooth sensitivity. On the other hand, ceramics, resin, and zirconia are much less susceptible to the effects of varying temperatures, so tooth sensitivity is reduced when they’re used.
  • Longer-Lasting Tooth Restorations
Procedures like porcelain fillings can last anywhere from 15 to 30 years. For comparison, a mercury-amalgam based filling has a typical lifespan of only 15 years.

Metal-free dentistry is the future of oral care, and at our offices, you can enjoy the numerous benefits of this type of dentistry! If you suspect that you need porcelain fillings, book an appointment with one of our Ottawa dentists today. We welcome new patients, patients seeking second opinions, or a new general dentist or cosmetic dentist. We have dental offices in Downtown Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, Orleans, Jackson Trails and Carp. Please call (613)-706-4837 to book a metal-free filling dentistry appointment.

January 23, 2026 is when this journey really began for me.

That was the day I spoke with Lynn about a very upsetting experience I had at a different dental clinic. I was discouraged, embarrassed, and honestly afraid to try again. I wasn’t just looking for a new dentist — I was looking for a place that would make me feel safe.

Lynn listened to me with patience and compassion. She didn’t rush me. She didn’t minimize what I felt. She treated my story with care.

We had to wait until February 15 for my government dental benefits to become active, and that’s why my first appointment was scheduled for February 20, 2026. During that waiting period, I carried a mix of anxiety and hope. But when I finally walked into Trillium Dental at Westgate Mall on February 20, I immediately felt something different.

Lynn remembered me. She remembered our conversation. I wasn’t just another name on a schedule. That alone meant more than she probably realizes. By the time I left that day, it didn’t feel like I had just met a staff member — it felt like I had connected with someone who genuinely cared. Somehow, so naturally, we became friendly in the most comforting way.

She made sure I was placed with Dr. Nair — and that decision changed everything for me.

Dr. Nair is one of the most compassionate and gentle healthcare professionals I have ever encountered. She listened to my worries without interrupting. She did not criticize my mouth or make me feel ashamed for staying away from dental care for years. Instead, she focused on what could be done moving forward. We completed the necessary exams and tests, and for the first time in a long time, I felt calm sitting in a dental chair.

And Rawan, the R.D.H., deserves just as much recognition. As someone who hadn’t seen a hygienist in years, I felt self-conscious and nervous. But Rawan treated me with patience, respect, and warmth. She was gentle and reassuring. She made something I feared feel manageable. That kind of care isn’t just technical skill — it’s heart.

I returned again on Friday, February 27 for further treatment, and the kindness was consistent. It wasn’t just a good first impression. It was genuine compassion.

What truly touched me was their understanding of my life circumstances. I am currently job searching and rebuilding stability. Financially, things are tight. Instead of making me feel small about that, they helped me sign up for the government dental insurance program and reassured me that my health still matters — even during difficult seasons.

Trillium Dental didn’t just treat my teeth. They restored my trust in healthcare. They reminded me that compassion still exists in medical spaces.

To Lynn, Dr. Nair, Rawan, and the entire team — thank you. You may do this every day, but for me, this experience was healing.

If you have been scared to go back to the dentist, if you feel embarrassed, or if life has simply made things difficult — this is the place that will meet you with dignity and humanity.

Forever grateful. 💙
I've always got some anxiety about going to the dentist but I really enjoyed going here. Even though I was the last appointment on Christmas eve, I never felt rushed or like a burden. Even when my insurance was taking too long they kept apologizing to me when it wasn't their fault. My hygienist was also a sweetheart that made sure to explain every part of the process instead of just doing it in uncomfortable silence. She also did a super good job on my teeth and I enjoy my smile again. I didn't see much of the dentist but I was only there for an exam and cleaning, she was nice for the little bit of time I saw her for.

Would highly recommend
