What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Fear keeps many people away from the dentist longer than they should. Sedation dentistry uses medication to help you stay relaxed during treatment, so appointments feel manageable instead of dreaded.

How Sedation Dentistry Works

Sedation is administered just prior to your treatment. What will be best for you depends on your anxiety level, how long the procedure will last, and your overall health. We review your medical background first, then decide on the safest choice for your case.

Benefits of Sedation During Dental Treatment

Anxiety eases and gagging becomes less of an issue, which lets our team focus fully on the work at hand. Even if you’ve avoided the dentist for years, there’s a comfortable path to a healthier smile now, and it takes far fewer visits than before.

Who Is Sedation Dentistry Right For in Orléans?

Dental anxiety is the most common reason patients ask about sedation here at Orleans. A strong gag reflex, sensitive teeth, or a long treatment plan are other good reasons to consider it.
It also helps patients who simply cannot sit still for long procedures, or who just want a calmer overall experience. Our IV sedation dentist reviews your situation and suggests the sedation level that fits best.

Types of Dental Sedation We Offer in Orléans

A few sedation options are available, and each one suits a different kind of patient and procedure.

General Dentistry Ottawa

Oral Sedation

A pill taken before your appointment does the work, so you arrive already calm. Moderate anxiety and longer procedures are where this option tends to shine.

IV Sedation

This goes straight into your bloodstream, working faster than the other options. Most patients stay deeply relaxed and remember very little of the visit afterward.

Restorative Dentistry Ottawa

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

A small mask delivers nitrous oxide during treatment, creating a mild and pleasant sense of calm. It clears out quickly, so most patients are fine to drive themselves home.

IV Sedation at Our Orléans Dental Clinic – Deep Relaxation, Expert Care

IV sedation is the deepest level of relaxation we offer in Orleans. Our trained team monitors you closely throughout the visit, and many patients recall little to nothing once treatment is done. For anyone who has avoided the dentist for years, this option often becomes the turning point that gets them back in the chair.
Strict safety protocols guide every IV sedation appointment, and your vital signs get watched the entire time. Because sedation allows longer, more complex work in one sitting, many patients need far fewer total visits.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe in Orléans?

Sedation is safe for most patients. Our dental care team reviews your health history and current medications carefully before recommending any option. IV sedation calls for the closest screening of all.
If any concerns come up during your consultation, our IV sedation dentist walks you through safer alternatives before your appointment date.

What to Expect at Your Sedation Dentistry Appointment in Orléans

Oral sedation means taking a pill before you arrive and arranging a ride home. Nitrous oxide involves a small mask once you are seated, with the calming effect starting within minutes. IV sedation requires fasting beforehand and a companion to drive you home afterward.
Recovery time depends on which option you chose. Nitrous oxide clears fast. Oral sedation may leave you a bit drowsy for a few hours. IV sedation usually needs the rest of the day. You will leave with full written aftercare instructions either way.

I was in so much pain, and they got me in the same day. Super nice staff and Dr Aguilar is professional and kind. I recommend them 110%!!!
Edit : I went again today to finish my extractions. Again, the staff they are ALL amazing. Dr Aguilar is so wonderful. We all had a good laugh because of my 5 years old saying “For real?” when he ask if all of my teeth were gone.

Thank you for the service. Great place to go ….recommend for
This Dental office is very unreliable. They book you an appointment at a specific time and they never take you in at that time. The last 4 times that I have been there I was told it would only take a few minutes and I have been there for well over an hour, sometimes 2. Why bother making an apointment if the time really doesn't mean anything ?? Always get an excuse that the Dentist is running behind but I see that other patients are going ahead of me. Anyways, I would not recommend this Dental Office as there are many other offices that have much better service in the Orleans area.

Excellent front desk staff. Friendly and compassionate
Dental hygienist was incredible, compassionate and very gentle. My anxiety stayed in tack. Dentist was gentle and lovely
I just came from my first appointment at this location and I’m so happy I had such a good experience with the whole staff starting with Flora at the front desk. Patrick was incredibly thorough and took the time to explain my X-rays, the cleaning process and to answer all my questions! Dr. Yamis was equally great - very welcoming and professional, and I give her extra points for speaking Spanish!
11/10 would recommend!
