Ottawa Sedation Dentistry
IV Sedation
This is sometimes referred to as Intravenous Conscious Sedation or "sleep dentistry." This is not entirely accurate since you are not asleep, as you are with general anesthesia. It will create a deeply relaxed state for patients who have extreme dental phobia or a very low pain threshold. You will need someone to bring you to your appointment and drive you home. It's probably advisable to have someone stay with you until the effects of the IV sedation have completely worn off.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation, like IV sedation, will put you into a deeply relaxed and comfortable, yet conscious state for your dental appointment. It is intended for patients who have extreme dental phobia or a low pain threshold. You simply take a pill prior to your appointment and then relax comfortably while we complete your appointment. You will need someone to bring you to your appointment and drive you home. It's probably advisable to have someone stay with you until the effects of the oral sedation have completely worn off.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide is commonly known as "laughing gas." It's used as a light sedative to make patients more relaxed during their appointments.
